How about the Norman Bird Sanctuary?

Beavertail at Jamestown. Great rocks and surf. :-D Nice lighthouse, too.

The tick population increase 800% there last year, hope they keep it down to a bare minimum this summer.

I love painting at the cliffs at Wetherill. My only good outdoor painting session was there.

I like to paint the horse barns at the Portsmouth Stables on the old Vanderbilt Farm. I also like the gritty scene of Island Park with its down-at-the-heels look. But that look isn't long for this world.

While I adore painting the ocean and marine scenes, there is a spot I've been eyeing for a while now, the golf course in Exeter, right on Rte 102. There is a space at the very edge of the course where a brook runs through, surrounded by what looks like cat-tails or similar angular tall foliage, beautifully shaped trees, great light. I am DYIN' to go paint it. It really is beautiful and far enough away from the golfing that you don't have to worry about hearing "FORE" while you're you're working. I think. :)....may want to wear a hard-hat, just in case, LOL.

Has anyone ever been chased out of a place? I haven't per se, but I have heard some stories. I usually make sure I'm painting on public land. One time in Northern RI, on the Blackstone, OUT OF SIGHT, this kid came up to me-like a little kid and was just a pain for about an hour with endless questions and then, telling me it was "his" river and "his" woods and then he started throwing branches and rocks around. My worry was what the heck was an 8 year old doing on his own, by the wild river, at 9am? Where were the parents?

I tend to want to find something public. I see alot of people that are quite tenacious about guarding their property(esp in south county, nothing against south county BTW) with all kinds of signs, etc. I know one friend who was painting and the "land owner" came out with a gun and in no mood to let someone paint on his land. In that case he had no clue it was someone's land-no signage. Another friend who paints said someone offered him to "rent" the five square feet he wanted to paint on, for something like $100 for the day. AND give him the painting. Yikes.

Beavertail is nice, and public. But sometimes crowded and as Marianne said, full of ticks. Or mating skunks(a sight to be seen and smelled!) Jamestown always has lots of nice places.

I think I met Mark here at the SPringbull gallery and he related a time he was painting and it turned out to be someone's land and they were cool about it.

Isn't it amazing that you can be out of all sight of prying eyes-you think-and SOMEONE SEES YOU and either the police show up, or someone comes out of the bushes with a gun, or someone sees you.... LOL! In a state "Where no one sees nothing" if you know what I mean LOL!

The audubon place with the boardwalk, over in Warren is pretty nice-is that the Norman one?

No, Bob. Norman Bird Sanctuary is in Middletown, Third Beach Road, not so easy to find if you don't know this beach area. Find Green End Ave and go South. You'll find Norman Bird Sanctuary on the right. Bring insect repellent!

I like road at the Dutra and the Neal farms in Jamestown. That road has everything, including shade, from the windmill to barns, to livestock, the bridge, golf coarse, and the creek.
