I agree, Cynthia...Chris does wonderful work and sticks with you til you're happy. All the services which offer giclees should give you a proof before they print; if they don't do that, I'd run in the opposite direction cuz you'd end up throwing away your $$. Bo at Images Design in Wakefield is just incredible, turns out a really high quality product. The downside is he's so busy that you really have to work at getting the time with him. His work is exceptional, though. A nice plus is that they hang the work of the artists they're working with in their office common area, which is thoughtful. I think either of these guys will give you giclees you can be proud of.

Regarding hi res digital scans of artwork and excellent giclee prints: I use Chris Clancy (Gordon's Ink) in EG . I like the fact that I can proof a giclee for color accuracy before it gets printed in person. And his giclees are just amazing quality. His scans are great also, I rarely need to do further color corrections or check for dust spots.
I highly recommend trying Chris.
I do not recommend Renaissance in Prov (it's been years, I don't know if they're still in business) But my first experience in having hi res scans was with them. Each one was horrific! Loaded with dust spots, the color was so off that no amount of color correction in PS ever made it right. Even after I complained, they couldn't do it right. If they're still in business, they shouldn't be!

I have been very bad. I have been hoarding a resource, and in good conscience must now list it here for everyone.
I had the good fortune to stumble across this guy and have a wonderful bizness relationship with him for over a year. He makes the MOST divine canvases, gallery-wrapped, all tucked in, in the back, kinda like Centurion. He has a huge variety of sizes and they are already primed. The beauty part is, they are such beautiful things; like fine furniture, honestly. When you open the box, the indivual canvases are carefully separated by sheets of white market paper; they are immaculate and gorgeous, great medium weave with a nice tooth. It is a pleasure to paint them. Best, BEST part ? They're inexpensive. I just bought :
2 12x24 $11
2 11x14 $7
4 12x16 $19
Shipping $20
----------------------
Total $57

He's in California, so if you're interested in trying them, order soon, takes about a week to get to you. After you get established with him, he sends you freebies like canvas panels or 8"x10"s in each box. He is awesome to work with and has been a huge asset to me.
His email:
info@canvasplace.com
name: Rupen

If you email for a quote, he gets right back to you and ships immediately. I get his canvases faster than Jerry's or ASW.
He's been so good to me that I feel bad hogging his lovely canvases to myself. Plus, I really would want others to experience painting on his supports, they are exceptionally high quality.
If you write, tell him Susi sent you. :):):):)

If you want to get a coffee table book made to show off your art there are a few sites to get it done. one of them is My Publisher which has a free program to help lay out the pages. Another is Lulu.com which will also help you make your book.

The categories you outlined sound good. For framers, I use FrameFit.com in Philadelphia. I have ordered a lot from them with only 1 error in a mat cutting which they corrected promptly. I have found them to be meticulous in their supplying orders...their website is easy to order from, and I think they're very reasonable. I just ordered 5 frames, with double mats, plexiglass, foamboard, plus one plain mat, for under $300. Granted they are just gold metal dome frames....but the look great. They usually ship pretty quickly.

Excellent idea. I think that could be very helpful.

Best Art Resources in Southern N.E. SURVEY

There's been some very useful input to this group about area resources for artists. We already have input on photo software, printers and ink, giclee, and comments about Gerry's etc. I'd like to retrieve it all and add it to a permanent listing of best places to purchase an array of art supplies. I imagine it can be set up so that any network member can rate and if they choose, review any vendor in an expanding list of "nominated" suppliers, both local and online. It might also include brand ratings and reviews, so it ends up being a sort of RIArtist Consumer Report.
First, I'd like to put out a call for suggestions of categories: general supplies, specific supplies and hardware for photographers, sculptors, painters. Best frames, framing supplies, oil paint brand preferences, brand preference in every other media etc.etc.

If anyone needs a Photoshop like program without paying the Photoshop price Gimp is a freeware version that is just like Photoshop. Also a good place to get prints made is Adorama

Has anyone used Ditto Editions, in Marblehead, MA? This is their site address: http://dittoeditions.com/process.htm. I am looking for a reasonable, good product house that is fairly local. I know of Iolabs, but just wanted to see if anyone had any additional input. Tks - FD
