Your work is beautiful! Very inspiring... It's hard sometimes to keep motivated, but seeing everyone's work really helps to light a fire under me!

Looking at your beautiful work, I have trouble regarding you as a neophyte anything. :):):):) As for your trip toTaiwan, to show your work effectively, you might want to make up a presentation book, a "look-book". Get yourself an 8"x10" presentation book ( Dick Blick has these, so does Jerry's Artarama) and make up 8'x10" prints of what you consider your most successful works. Use the best digital papers you can find, this is not an area you'll want to scrimp on; Arches Infinity makes some gorgeous papers for prints. Put your work in the book along with a copy of your resume/show history, etc. ... I would also suggest that you go to VistaPrint.com and uploading your images, make up several hundred postcards that you can hand out during your trip. Always have them on you when you're going out each day, give them to anyone you talk to.That networking is INVALUABLE; brings sales and wonderful opportunities !! I always hand out cards at any show I do, along with every time I leave the house or paint en plein aire. I can tell you with authority that those postcards generate roughly about 19% of my post-show sales and 31% of my non-show sales, and have gotten me opportunities I simply never would've heard of without them. You may not hear from someone you've given a card to for a while, then suddenly, 6-8 months later they write you and want to buy a painting for a special occasion or gift, or maybe they offer you a commission. In any event, it is just smart marketing and promotion, and if we want to survive on our work, we have to as a group, get much better at this.
Hope that helps, and I'm sure you're taking a digital camera with you, yes ?? PLEASE put your ID on it; these are likely targets for thieves, tourists with shiny, expensive cameras. You can get a UV marker and write your name, phone # and address or email on your camera; will be invisible in daylight, but flouresces under black-light, can help you recover your camera. Also be sure to take plenty of extra memory for it, unless you have a laptop you're taking to upload to daily.
Are you taking any art supplies with you ? Have you flown with art supplies before ? This is a whole other posting, LOL, so let me know if you need it....if not, I won't waste your page space. :)
I am excited to see what you paint as a result of going there....you have to post pictures when you return and show us !!!
Best Regards: Susi

PS---you asked about sticking your neck out. It does take some courage, but as my Grandpa used to say, "You don't go, you don't get". That's my mantra. I am hardly the most talented painter I know, yet I am able to achieve some wonderful things, exposure etc with my work. Why ? Because every day, I leap. You must leap and believe the net will be there, and amazingly, gratefully, it always is. :):):):)

Hi Marjorie, thanks for your comments too. Yes, the images are digital photos that I hand embellish, and overlay, and use digital paint programs, all in a miasma of ways to get the effects that I do. The ultimate print size depends on what I was thinking of when I started working on a particular 'subject'. I very often like small photos, and I also like long horizontals too. They usually end up in the standard size 4x6, 5x7 8x10 etc., print sizes. I have had a few 16 x 20 prints made that were high quality too.

Hey there,

Haven't talked with you for forever and a day. For that matter, I've been pretty much out of the loop.

How are you doing? How is your art?

I've been just making work, and teaching, which is a blast. Two hours of good teaching is like a car battery to the frontal lobes- some people it cooks to a crisp...In my case, it just gives me some serious initiative.

Deborah just finished another semester, so the summer is clear. Love to see you if you have time!

I love, love, love your winter scenes ! My favorite, though is "Approaching Providence" and "King Street". Really beautiful color and mood. I am a huge fan of Wolf Kahn, too. :) Did you ever read any of what he writes about color theory ?
Anyway, congrats on a stunning portfolio~

I love your work! The movement and simplicity are wonderful. I especially love the Copper Beech II. We have one on our property, and you seemed to have captured the essence of what a great tree the Copper Beech is. Winter White is awesome.
