Traditional Oil Methods on Linen, Cotton and Panels.
About Me:
I am a 2006 RISD Illustration graduate. I currently focus on two types of painting. The first and most important is plein air site specific landscapes, some of which touch on environmental issues. My second method of painting is more methodical, less site specific and strives to capture a mood or energy.
I'd love to met anyone interested in art, music, the outdoors or just having fun. I'd really like to meet some people around my age or older (27). Most of my friends have moved away after graduation and things are getting lonely.

Tim,
Go over to groups and join the "Aquidneck Plein air" one. Its a fun and perfectly unorganized group!

Thanks, TimO! Any of those options sound great. I'll have to see what would work best for me, then check with you. In the meantime, if you do organize any classes, let me know those dates. I think it would be fun to get a group together to paint! I am sad to say I've never worked in oils. Never had the courage to try, I guess, but I've always wanted to try. I work mainly in acrylic. Do you find one medium to be better suited?

Amazing work... I am so interested in Plein air painting. I'd love to know if you know of any workshops or classes locally. Thanks!

Hi TimO.! Thanks for your comment...you should upload some of your pics here...your work is riveting (I saw some of your landscapes on your site).

I'm in a similar situation...most of our friends moved away after graduation as well (my boyfriend and I both graduated from Roger Williams in 2002). It sucks...especially on those nice summer days when we're like "hey let's have a BBQ...who do we invite? Oh wait...all our friends live like 100 miles away"

Your work is lovely. You should check out the art scene in Westerly. We have an art stroll, tax free arts district and a great cooperative gallery.

Mark,
Holy Cow YES!!!! I would love to be invited to whatever whenever. Life is growing dull as my RISD group dwindles. I have yet to do any site specific works in Newport and really haven't explored RI much at all since graduation. Thanks a ton! I can't say I"ll be able to make it to all the meets, but the invite/community will help my motivation.

Sincerely, Tim Ohliger.

Tim,

I really like your paintings. I am sure web photos do not do them justice. There is a small but strong group of Plein Air painters here in the Newport Area and South County. We try to get groups together to head out and paint. Do you want to be added to our email notice when we head out? We know the coast down here. It would be great if you had some good painting spots you could share too.
Mark
